1. Program’s purpose and objectives
The main purpose of the program is to prepare primary teachers who will teach children between the ages of 6 and 12, pre-primary teachers for teaching between the ages of 3 and 6, and nursery school teachers for teaching between the ages of 0 and 3. The main objective of the program is to prepare candidate teachers to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to properly organize the learning environment that will nurture the cognitive, social, emotional and moral development of children depending on their selected specialization. More specifically the main objectives of the proposed program are:
- The pedagogical training of candidate educators of primary education (teachers) and educators of preschool education (kindergarten and nursery school teachers) pre-primary education and early childhood education respectively.
- The production and transmission of knowledge in the scientific field of primary and preschool education
- The appropriate education and training of teaching staff for work in private or public primary education schools, kindergartens, nurseries depending on the selected specialization.
Specialization Primary Education
The purpose of the Primary Education program is to offer modern and innovative studies in Education Sciences adapted to the professional, educational and social needs, covering both their theoretical and applied field. Specifically, the purpose of the proposed program is to provide a high level of theoretical knowledge and professional skills for prospective educators who will be able to meet their mission as future teachers of Primary Education. The Pedagogical Department of Primary Education seeks to train teachers who will respond positively to the transformation of education and will be able to use in their daily work pedagogical, psychological, sociological and philosophical theories to cultivate a society based on the principles of justice, democracy, freedom and equality.
Specialization Pre-Primary Education
The purpose of the Pre-Primary Education program of the pedagogical department of Preschool Education is to promote a high level of scientific, technological and professional education of its students, so that they become capable to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for preschool children between the ages 3 to 6, enriching education with systematic knowledge, experiences, social sensitivity and perspective. Specifically, the aim of the proposed program is the education and training of future teachers based on the timeless and most up-to-date cognitive areas of Education Sciences and new teaching and methodological approaches, so that our graduates are able to perform their multifaceted work, responding to the requirements of the profession with success and also have solid foundations that will allow them to develop their critical and creative thinking.
Specialization Early Childhood Education
The purpose of the Early Childhood Education program is to provide appropriate education and professional training of prospective early childhood teachers, while focusing on the theoretical but also on the professional approach of the necessary educational topics for an integrative training. The content of studies covers the subjects of pre-school care and education sciences and their applications, according to the recent scientific and social developments in the education, upbringing and care of preschool children. Specifically, the Curriculum provides general and specific knowledge that builds on a wide range of knowledge, skills and competencies that make students suitable for future professional careers and development in the field of preschool care and education and prepares them to work with toddlers and preschoolers in their formative years. The Preschool early childhood educator plays an important role not only in the preparation for primary school but also in the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a solid and broad foundation for lifelong learning and wellbeing and it focuses between the ages of 0 to 3.
2. Graduation
The course score will consist of two parts. The grade represents a continuous assessment of student academic progress. Coursework and attendance have a weight of 40% of the total score, and the final written examination score at the end of the academic semester is 60% of the total weight. The student requires a minimum of 120 ECTS to graduate. The duration of each teaching period is 55 minutes.
